about me
Hello! I am a 20s y/o black enby hobbyist artist/coding enthusiast living somewhere in the absurdist hellscape that is the United States. (get me out of here) (also any prns are fine)
I've made this website as a space where I can live online, as normal social medias are very destabilizing to me. Still, I wanted to connect to the web publicly in some small way.
what you'll find here
Visual art has been something I've done ever since I was very young, and it's very tied to my personhood. I strongly identify with the OC art community, and I'm a storyboarding and indie animation enthusiast. You will find a lot of art and storyboarding experiments in my gallery, and it is one of the two main things I expect to yap about in my blog.
Coding is something I grew into later, but I've always loved computers and the internet and I like the (hypothetical) benefits that they can provide to the world. I went into college as a CS major; I ended up dropping out very late in the degree for a number of reasons, but I still really enjoy computer science, and I've been rekindling my faith in the discipline by lurking in open source communities. Coding will be the other main thing I talk about in my blog.
'Anarchist' also best describes my political leanings, and I sort of see this website as prefiguratively enacting what existing online and interacting with others would be like on a more equitable, more horizontal, and less exploitative internet and computing landscape. Me thinking about anti-hierarchical ideas will also probably be one of the throughlines on the blog.
Lastly, storytelling generally has also been of my long-time loves. I love exploring the inner workings of how storytelling, and especially visual storytelling, compels us. I like sci-fi and fantasy, and I particularly love listening to audio horror, but I also adore slice of life and the way it can bring appreciation to mundane existence.
I love being thrown into a setting without knowing what is going on, and in my personal worldbuilding projects that's kind of the vibe I am going for. Storytelling and worldbuilding projects will likely make up a large part of my projects, as well as "sub-websites" (subdomains) that may come to exist.
terms of activity/interaction
I find a section like this necessary because online dynamics especially when you identify as an artist are often very under-negotiated and tainted by influencer culture.
Lack of connectivity features beyond an intention to link to other smallweb sites is an intentional choice. I see this website as more of a broadcasting medium than anything else, because that is what I am most comfortable defining my online presence as.
I'm an online native, but mainly in the sense of being a lurker. I love a yap, I probably wouldn't be building the blog if I didn't, but I've never been good with online interaction, and I dislike drawing attention to myself.
My intention is to post things that I decide I wouldn't mind people stumbling upon. Maybe someone will get something out of it, maybe they won't. If I do post anywhere else, then I am just doing the bare minimum to syndicate from/link back here (POSSE moment). I don't make any claims or intentions to be a "content creator" and I refuse to be held to that standard of frequency or topic consistency. My opinion is that in this capitalist landscape, the "creator/fan" dynamic is often abusive to both parties involved.
There is a likelihood I will be adding a particular subdomain for posting fanart; in which case, it will be quarantined in said subdomain, and I will never syndicate it to other places. I like the idea of making fanart, but I don't consider myself a fandom person. Being associated as a "fandom person" carries a lot of baggage, like being expected to fundamentally relate to other people who happen to like the same media you like, and being aware of the history of fandom discourse. Being not-normal about media I like is a very personal experience to me. Unless otherwise stated, I reject to being associated with a certain fandom.
(An example of an exception would be, like.... Kirby?... kirby my beloved. Or like the SCP wiki)
- Also with regards to fan-stuff, I fear that my language when speaking my opinions can be abrasive, because I don't believe that my strong opinions on inconsequential topics should have to invalidate others'. Differing interpretations of art is one of the best things about art!! I think it is great if we can all talk shit about unserious topics!! (Key word, "unserious": if it's giving bigotry or glorifying some kind of fucked-up-ness then that does require serious scrutiny.) Anyway, this is another reason why I don't intend to syndicate fan content elsewhere, because I feel like being exposed to that tone without the relevant context comes off as unnecessarily rude. If you do end up going onto the fan-sections of the site that may exist in the future, you have been warned.
I feel like my interests in media both consuming and creating can trend dark; not especially edgy and grimdark, but can require some media-literate discussions and analysis. I'd like to state a blanket content advisory for explorations on the abuses of hierarchy which uh may not be a very helpful warning sorry. In any case, while I don't at all believe younger people can't process that stuff (it's often The time when they are doing it), it is a personal boundary that I would rather prefer to only speak to other people who are 18 or older when I have communications open, and that I don't want minors 13 or younger traversing this site.
Well thaaaank u for reading all that, hope you enjoy your visit!!
